Species: Ircinia strobilina
  • Location: Sweetings Cay, Bahamas
  • Habitat: deep reef
  • Photographer: Sven Zea
  • Picture Taken On: 2004-06-14 15:31:29
  • Picture Notes: At first sight it did not appear to be an Ircinia, but it smelled like one and contained spongin fibrils. It may be a juvenile. It was placed in I. strobilina for having a skeleton of thin strongly interwoven spongin fibers forming wide ascending and interconnecting fascicles, widely separated. Dermis has foreign material but nos as much as in a typical I. strobilina.
